Common Questions
What is Qi?
Broadly defined as energy, Qi assists and coordinates all the functions of the body necessary for healthy living.
Who can benefit?
Anyone from adolescents to seniors can enjoy the benefits of Chinese medicine.
What can I expect?
Whether receiving treatments privately or in a communal setting, an initial visit will include a private consultation with one of our practitioners. A detailed health history will be taken in a question-and-answer format, followed by pulse and tongue diagnoses, the formulation of a treatment plan, and finally, an acupuncture treatment. Subsequent visits last approximately one hour for a private session, or thirty minutes for communal and ear sessions, and include lifestyle recommendations and herbal prescriptions in addition to acupuncture treatments.
How many treatments are required?
This depends on the nature and severity of the individual condition. Generally, a patient should feel relief within two to three sessions for an acute condition, while five to fifteen may be necessary for a chronic condition. It is recommended that a course of treatment be completed in the shortest amount of time possible, as the effects of acupuncture rarely last longer than 48 hours. Certain disorders require ongoing "maintenance" visits that are spread out over several months.
What are the most common side effects?
Light bruising, numbness or tingling near the insertion site.
Do you accept insurance?
Payment is due at the time of services rendered. We can provide a detailed receipt (Superbill) to those patients whose insurance companies provide coverage.
